Fifty Shots (revised)

(Author's note:  I received a lot of feedback telling me to put some more fire and anger into this work.  Tried to give it some teeth, let me know how it turned out.  Many thanks for your reading and comments. ~JLK)

Extra, extra, read all about it.
Be sure you're seated, as you won't believe this.
Released from wrong-doing by the judge.
Their records reflect not even a smudge.
Have you seen the news today?
Bloody cops are sent on their way.

Shouts of "What?!" and "no way!"
Others stood with nothing to say.
Mass riots, brutal fighting.
Screams of the people who had just been violated.

"We thought he had a gun!" they hastily tried to say.
Well tell that to the fucking woman whose husband you just blew away.
Tell that to those children whose father ain't comin' home.
Tell that to the family who is now grieving alone.

No peace for the widow
No explanation to the fatherless kids.
No justification for what those cops did.

With 50 shots those cops took away
A father, a wedding, and a future day.
Of course the race card was given
but the truth remains unhidden
Those shots, they did hit
the cops didn't give a shit
I hope god judges them some day.

fitting tritbute; would like to see more anger in this as I would venture to guess that it is sitting just beneeth the surface. Sadly these atrocites continue; the most unfortuate thing is that people play that race card when in reality the only color that matters is the blue these criminals wear; black and blue uniforms that look more like a get out jail free card then serve and protect. Don't want to engage in a complete debate about gun rights; weather its right or wrong; I would say that government is too big as it is; should not be restricting peoples decisions in their personal lives, I believe that their priamry purpose should be civil works; highways, defense and such. One of the big problems today is that people try to inflict their way of life on eveyone else in the world; if eveyone just did what they did & left eveyone else alone to live life as they see fit then we wouldn't have so much hate, violence, and unrest becuase all it really is fear because someone is different and people try to make others conform to their way of living. Thanks, all!

Thanks, Robert, Barb, and Jess for your input so far. Being a legal gun owner, I have a biased opinion of the whole debate - but.... The only thing I have to say is that it's not the GUNS who are the problem, it's the PEOPLE whose hands they are in. If the person is mature, and is a proper owner, there will be no problem. As for the ban - you see how well that worked with everything else, right? If you can't have it - people are just gonna smuggle it anyway. Good thoughts from you both, though. :~) ~Lynn (Dwarfie) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ~ "Bush is listening.... use big words!" ~ "Your inferiority complex is better than mine..."

I think a sticky problem ...

that generally goes unnoticed is: How does one determine what makes a proper person for gun-owning? And how does one determine what makes a proper judge of who makes a proper person for gun-owning? Etc., etc., ad nauseum. And just when has choosing a proper person for gun-owning become as reliable as I think it necessarily should be? As to police officers, who chooses those who become them? And what gives the people who makes such choices the right to make such choices? It's obvious to me the appropriate checks and balances are either inadequate or inappropriately applied. Reminds me a little bit of the IRS agent who is so quick to accuse a taxpayer who's done no wrong. My question there is more like: Why doesn't the taxpayer have the right to audit the IRS agent? And why doesn't the taxpayer get to choose whether whatever the agent provides as proof of whatever is really proof? I.e., when is proof proof? The IRS seems to think it has a handle on that ... when all it does is define proof however it wants. Methinks proof is, like beauty, too often merely in the eye of the beholder. Sorry. I've run off these rails with thoughts of IRS. I guess the connection in my mind is the fact both IRS and (too often) police, like the government in general, do not represent the people they ostensibly serve. (In this context, I view "serve" as a four-letter word, as in "serv." Frankly, it's constipated bullshit.) Oh, well, enough of rant on rant. Other things make me happier. Yours, Chuck

Chuck....

Chuck, isn't constipated bullshit an oxymoron?? LOL Many thanks for your thoughts. This wasn't really a rant - you wanna hear a rant, go check out Moral Degredation... THAT is a rant. :~) Have a great day, friend. ~Lynn (Jess K.) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ~ "Bush is listening.... use big words!" ~ "Your inferiority complex is better than mine..."

I have reviewed this case as it went through various sources.

depending on the source, the common factor came down to the information that reached the officers, who where there for an unrelated incident, getting swept up in an ccuring unchecked report, including a possible relation to the person shot. What inhanced the urgency? A crowd of hip hop affiliated people? Short cuts in procedure come through stereo typing, sadly the one time an officer goes against the gut reaction it Id likely to be an officer getting shot? Yet fifty rounds? twenty kicks to the side of the head of a man that ran from an plain clothes officer in Midara just last week, was visiting a friend and walking home at night, he was a thin white 20 something mail, "obviously a Meth head?In an influencial neighboorhood? You were moved to speak about this needless murder and I think rightly so. You did a good job stating facts and left the reader with much to ponder - many unanswered questions that may cause others to read up on this event and tragedy. It was horrible and I can certainly see why it inspired your pen to spit.

Absolutely

David - Unfortunately, when I first heard of the shooting, my immediate thought was "yeah, they're gonna get off." The verdict surprised me not in the least, though the whole case was fishy - why did they smash into the police car? Why were they trying to run in the first place? So many questions that we'll never know the truth about. Amara - thanks to you and Jess for convincing me to post this. I had to take my little red pen out (backspace key) quite a few times, as when I get mad, I have a potty mouth. So this is the toned down version - though Robert thinks it needs more sizzle. :~] ~Lynn (Dwarfie) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ~ "Bush is listening.... use big words!" ~ "Your inferiority complex is better than mine..."
