Moon Spinner

shadows dancing

 in the muted hues

of the fading afternoon

as evening slowly emerges

from its silken cocoon

like some spectacular creature

shedding its skin

sun gives way to moon's silver rays

as the cycle begins once again

and the darkness unfolds

a heavenly canvas

in the moon's clouds

flickering reflected light

stored in magic

both gray and white

As you must have guessed..

I'm a big fan of the moon and all of its beauty and mystery. I am not familliar with beltane but I can only guess it to be a moon festival.. in which case it can't be bad. Your poem carried me through the fall of night and the moon's magical spell on the world... Richard

Hi Richard

On Beltane: "Coming together with family and Tribe we light the bale fires and dance a dance of celebration and joy. We honor the Spirits of Nature as they move across the land awakening the magic, spinning the enchantment, and we embrace the Rites of Life." from Sanctuary Circle Magazine. Now a days, Beltane is known as May Day. To learn more about Beltane you could google it. Thanks for reading and commenting :) Always, Cat

a

steady and patterned formula of the transition between day and night: "as the cycle begins once again/and the darkness unfolds/a heavenly canvas.." my three favorite lines! the kind of poetry that frees one's imagination, in the tradition of the surrealists. great job

A new kitty poem...

... that I haven't reviewed?! I'm-a slackin'. Beautiful imagery here, Cat. I, too, was ignorant as to what Beltane was - thanks for the clarification. ~Lynn (Jess K.) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ~ "Bush is listening.... use big words!" ~ "Your inferiority complex is better than mine..."
