Morning Whispers

This fine early morning
I hear the day whisper unto me,
reminding me to be sensible
and careful, so as to remain free.

For freedom is a privilege
and I'm reminded that each night,
as I lay down safely in my bed
I understand it's not a right.

Each morning when I wake up safe
I'm urged towards thankfulness,
and I wonder what I ever did
to deserve to be so blessed.

I gain no added troubles
or worries as I sleep,
and when the morning nudges me awake
all my blessings are mine to keep.

So with whom do I share my gratitude?
For there's so much I'm grateful of;
and considering their abundance
I have to thank God, up above.

I mean not to offend anyone
by mentioning the existence of God,
but I can't thank merely circumstance,
there's someone higher up, I must applaud.

I hear the day whisper again
full voice, inside my ear;
urging me to greet the day
and God's love, that's so very clear.

Doc...

we should all be thankful every time our eyes open... for one day they will not... it is inevitable... I am not religious... and am rarely offended by another's beliefs, but I love that you added that into your poem... to me, it shows a grander acceptance in you that we should all adhere to... Your poem... I don't know how important flow is to you... but I thought some of the sentencing could have been shortened to help the flow and make it a more powerful message... but that too is only my view... it already packs a warming message for all... thanks for posting... I am relieved...

....and greatly humbled at your acceptance of my poem. The day I wrote it, I felt a "peace" upon awakening that greatly accentuated my beliefs, and my awareness that I AM blessed beyond my wildest dreams. Thank-you all, for your comments...for now, I am blessed that much more. My warmest regards, #{:>{)= doc.
