My favourite books

The worst poets I have ever read do not read poetry.

The best read both poetry and literature.

You can find my favourite poets on my profile

Here are the most important books I have ever read:

"The Dispossessed" by Ursula K. Leguin
"Ridley Walker" by Russell Hoban
"Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" by Hunter S. Thompson
"Faerie in Darkness" by C.S. Cherryh
"Still Life with Woodpecker" by Tom Robbins
you will note none of them are "classics"
They are my all time favourites I read over and over again.
But I may have missed one or one hundred or so.

It makes it hard to find a house,
to fit my thousands of books

I would sleep in a closet
rather than lose even one.

Hi, Jess,

you know that I feel the same about my books... My favourites? Well, everything by Sir Terry Pratchett, as you already know. And I am always returning to Umberto Eco (especially his satirical essays), and to "Dune" and "The Snow Queen" (my favourite scifi books). Then, of course, "Lord of the rings" (I have those in German and in English). And my most recent favourites are "Septimus Heap" by Angie Sage and "Ink Heart" and its sequels by Cornelia Funke. I will stop writing down my favourites now, you´ve sent me off on a regular rant here! Cheers, ~Nina P.S. When did you last count your books? I haven´t counted mine in ages, no idea how many I have...

I said a hundred or so! Important ones

Own a thousand or so I can't let go of. Adore Pratchett, did you you know he has got Altzeimers and there won't be any more Disk World novels? I grieve personally. Eco (is some kind of god) cheers, Jess

Yes, Jess,

I know about Pratchett Altzheimer´s, and, like you, I am grieving for his genius. Did you know about his being knighted? (The link´s on my profile, check it out if you like.) He´s finally been publicly accepted as a serious writer, no more "At least we might get some kids who read him to read real books eventually.". Cheers, ~Nina

I had a real book hoarding issue.

Then, I decided to donate them to the public library. Make room for the new - a win-win for me and my community. Except for the fairy-tales! I couldn't let go of the illustrations (esp. Struwwelpeter) or the childhood memories that seemed magically stuck in the pages.

Struwwelpeter!

Is one I have lost! Perhaps one of my sisters has it. I can't bear to not own a single word of literature I love cheers, Jess

Fear and Loathing I've read

but my favorite is "A Prayer for Owen Meany" by John Irving. Interesting post Jess, but shouldn't this be a blog rather than a poem? Tom

you are quite right Tom

in form, but it came from me stright to my fellow poets, perhaps in my hubris I felt it had a poetic quality of its own. cheers, Jess

Hello Weirdelf

I like my books in hardcover, which further acerbates my problem of lifting these behemoth boxes when it comes to moving, not to mention the shelves. Many books are totally beat up from that and half are lost in storage. Unfortunately, my husband is not as committed to my books as am. I have actually replaced some, though I may never get back to read them again. Ebay and Amazon have been great to find those out of print books. Yours, Deelilah
