BEYOND PANDORA

Three short poems, written a long time ago –
just after my separation and the lead-up to divorce.
Confidence, self-esteem, trust ... all shot to pieces.
Still, I'm a stubborn kind of fool...
I get knocked down and I stand up again.

1 PANDORA’S BOX

You should have snapped
hard fast the lock,
and, unlike Pandora,
sat upon the lid.

Don't complain now
that your innocence is lost
your senses assaulted
your feelings downcast:
You knew beforehand
what would come
to occupy that space.

Many a wise tongue has clucked
at poor Pandora's sin:
how much more foolish is the tongue
who, having clucked,
repeats the crime.
Like mine.

2 SLIGHTLY USED

Does anyone want
a used donor card?
For mine's of no use, now.
Having given once
I have no more heart within me
left to give.

3 LUCK’S A LADY

You've opened up again
haven't you?
Let the safe shield slip an inch.

Haven't you learned yet
that the slipper you carry
will never fit?
that there is no
girl among the cinders
waiting for you?

Didn't you spread your cards
along the table
one last time?
Risk one final toss of dice?
Fool!
Fortune will never smile on you,
since Luck's a lady
and ladies don't love you.

these three writes covered a nice chunk of time as well ehhh... you went from defeated, to hopeful, to spreading your heart again only to get it knocked out from under... and yet it isn't done! Pandora's grip has quite the grasp... like your style... Richard

I actually read this not long after it was posted but it was the early hours of my morning and I like to make a semblance of sense LOL ... You go through so many changes in this piece ... It really shows the pandoras web that you had been caught in ... No story is ever finished Mike ... Each day another chapter of our lives are writen so take heart my friend love could be just round the corner or staring straight at you ... Hugz ... Love and Light JayC x

Isn't that what life is like ?

Isn't that what life is like for most people, we expect, we find out, we move on feeling hopeless and yet we do it again and again driven by the wonder of it all. Are you alone now? I wouldn't think so. Is this true today for you Mike of Manchester? My Father was a Derbyshire lad so we have roots in the same earth. I like this analogy. I've always had more than a little sympathy for Pandora - after all curiosity is a prime indicator of humanity, don't you think? ... and sometimes despite the ills released it is all worth it in the end. Hi Mike, If you don't mind, I'd like to share one of my versions of Pandora's box written in 2005. Pandora and I Pandora had a box filled with everything a child could ever hope for I would open this beautiful gold and silver box and imagine everything I wanted was inside, I would play day after day with an empty box, pretending to remove and replace the emptiness with something I wanted just for that day. and so I came to the age where children no longer play with emptiness and nothingness and all I had left was hope. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Love, however, Mike, is nothing unless we give it away. ~A "No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment of punishment." Article 6 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Thanks for gracing my 'scrawlings' with this lovely little gem. And hope, eh? I was told that as an infant I was named at "the fires" Gobbaith - which is archaic Welsh for Hope. Futhermore it was made clear that the hope was not for me, but for other people I touched. Whether or not this has any truth obviously I cannot say - though I have always felt something special for hope. HOPE'S BEST Sometimes when it's worst I know what's best But I also know That what is best hurts most Best of all when it's worst hope hurts least. I conclude, then, In spite of all, hope's best. The first poem is filled with words of wisdom - cleverly put. The second one is filled with a sense of sadness and defeat. The third is just dripping with bitterness.
