Asante

The edenic garden on the desert of gold
Ashanti!

The kingdom whose boundaries were only penetrated
With treaties, never with canons
Asante!

The empire whose monarchy was furiously fissured
Yet could not be humbled into crumbs
Asante!

The people whose culture and tradition
Is a feast of smiling stars in their sparkling splendor
Asantes!

The kingdom whose majestic steps always tame the troubled waters
Asante!

The empire whose gold has given the world a stool
Asante!

The first graduates of Ananse’s weaving school
Asante!

The people whose hospitality
Turns strangers into natives
Asantes!

The empire whose installation of its kings
Make the whole world walk to Manhyia
Asante!

The porcupine warriors
Who double in thousands with the last man standing
Asantes!

The porcupine warriors
Who never run out of quills!

Ashanti, I have heard that somewhere before but cannot think where .. this is like a hymn ...or mantra I cant put my mind on the word I am looking for ... but this is a glimpse into your world I am intrigued and would love to read more about your country , hot like mine but you have so many wonders I will never witness .. but I can through your eyes .. and words love and hugs Jayne x x

Dear Jane

Asante altered as Ashanti is the largest ethnic group in Ghana.They are noted for their rich culture and their heroic war tactics in the olden days.They happen to be the tough nut the British found it difficult to crack.Hence engaged in series of battles with them till their then King Nana Agyemang Prempeh and his queen mother were taken into exile in 1900 by the British.You can read more about them by searching the net.Hope you chooses my country anytime you want to go on tour. So that i may find time to take you around.I purposefully wrote this poem to leave my mark in the annals of Ashanti history.

Oh the Ashanti I see their art

You conjure up this proud race with its victorious stance and it fills our minds with elegance and grace. This is lovely Adjel. Oh look you were called Sinbadd! I won't comment on that ! "humbled into crumbles" humbled or crumbled ...I think as crumbles are sweet crumbs on cakes in my mind. the porcupine is the symbol of the Asantes. the Asantes see the porcupine as a warrior who uses the quills as a shield. relating the qills to Asante significantly suggests that the Asantes come in thousands like the porcupine throws it quills.

coming to think of the history of the Asantes, i think this poem spells out the true nature of Asantes. this poem shall be understood better when recited.
