A ROSE FOR MY SOLDIER

I am a rose the colour of
bloody battles
flowing through my
petals

I am a rose with
thorns like 
bayonnets-
my petals
scattered over
distant plains


I am a rose with
smells to
entice
the warm
embrace of my
soldier
from a dusty
toil

A lovely poem that all

A lovely poem that all soldiers should read. A rose with it's beauty and lovely scent flourishes, but with thorns. Just like life. Great words Panella. Rosina xena465

You've got it...sent this to The Royal Logistics Core Commander (I'm poet in residence to my local barracks)...it's being copied and sent out to his unit out in Afghanistan. Been oft requested apparently. Wanted the loving and wistfulness to come out...so thank you for recognising that. Ells x

Loved this one from you, but I would like to see it expanded, (could be just me.) ______________________________________________________ Income-tax forms should be more realistic by allowing the taxpayer to list "Uncle Sam" as a dependent Anonymous

Thanks Janice, Wanted it short & sweet, some soldiers have commented that it's easy to commit to memory. That's important to them. Thanks for your comments though, I appreciate it. Ells x

Nicely put

I like how you contrast violent imagery with beauty, seeing the rose through a soldier's eyes- if I were a soldier I would cherish this poem... Hugs, Jhena
