alabaster fields

Butterflies dance
down alabaster fields
the sun rises,
sleepy blue almonds are born
from starlight and myrrh.

Crested petals
on tropic iris glisten
to a scented mound,
wonder invites the dawn.

Satin curves part
pearls become the rose
to hold tight
a lip drawn back.

Sunlit shafts
stab the darkness
with clarity
windows dilate.

Across a room
the rattling
and breathing
begin.

I always take pleasure in reading one of your poems and it is no different for this one. Your first stanza is outstanding Chrys

I love the way you generously give subtlely beautiful images

and allow reality to come crashing in, without breaking the spell. Quite an achievement. My only crit is the use of the word myrrh, which, lets face it, is only associated with the three wise men and jesus. It intrudes on the poem. Cheers, Jess, Reprehensibly irrepressible

thank you Jess

there are for me a few other associations that come with the word myrrh, I particularly like the sound of it, warm and soft and the feelings that evokes. cheers Craig

Dear Craig,

nothing to add or to nitpick about. You are flying. Must be the dove queen holding your hand. Love to you both. Yours, ~Nina
