Background
B.A (Hons) Archaelogical Studies (Leicester University) and PGCE Leeds.
I qualified as a teacher in 1983 and although I have spent the greater part of my working life in education, I have also, set up and run an art gallery, buying works from around Europe and established and developed a wine importing wholesale business.
I have always written in some form or another and love everything about the written word.
I have two grown up sons and live on a small farm in North Yorkshire, in the north of England.

Qualities
Honest, reliable and hardworking, with what I hope is a great sense of humour.
I'm a people person and enjoy communication.
I will stand up for what I believe in, even if I'm the only one there.

Diplomacy
A little tact and diplomacy goes a long way and I think a degree of empathy is invaluable.
Being a teacher, I am used to listening, not judging and finding a way forward. Being diplomatic is an important part of this process.

Leadership
I've never been afraid to stand up and speak out.
Availability
As I have just retired from teaching, I am not constrained by working commitments, so I have plenty of time to give.
I am on site daily and I will respond promptly to all communication.

Future Direction
Neopoet is a unique poetry platform. It isn't just another publishing forum. It offers the poet an insight into their work from other poets, from all walks of life. It provides a learning environment, not only from critique given, but also in a literal sense from the workshops available.
I think it's important this educational aspect is maintained and developed, through encouraging positive critique and providing a range of stimulating courses.
I think one of our greatest challenges lies not only in attracting new poets to join us, but in keeping them on board. Neopoet doesn't want to become stale and static, but remain a vibrant and stimulating place to be.

Alternative Role
I am already a workshop leader and coordinator, greeter and advocate. One of my roles in developing the workshops is as a communications link. I want to make sure all members are aware of all the interesting things that are happening on site and have the opportunity to join in. I also want to look at new ideas for workshops and keep that momentum going.
