Ash and Fire
I’ve lived a life in the fire.
Each waking hour, I burn.
The unrelenting flames of
everyday demands consume me,
melting my resolve.
Charred on the outside,
not brittle.
My heart refuses to combust.
It glows bright as a meteor,
unbroken,
absorbing the energy
engulfing it.
When the flames are extinguished,
I lie buried in ash,
but my core remains.
I endure the next blaze,
and even the rain.
