Dear everyone,

as promised, I list below the main items brought up during the AEC Chat Session. There were more ideas, but these seemed to be the most important ones:

1. Consider changing the current style/type options from: Freeverse, Structured: Western & Structured: Eastern to have more detailed options.

2. To include sub-divisions or tags to further describe the type of poem: dark, erotic, humour...etc

3. Make a limit of no more than 2 poems posted per week. Or post a poem only after making 3/5/7 or 10 comments first.

4. Increase the length of term of the AEC to 4, 5 or 6 months.

5. Bring back Short Stories.

6. Re-define the use of Blogs. This should not be an avenue to post more poetry. There is a Stream and Workshops for poetry. Leave Blogs solely for other posting purposes.

-----------------------------

I am going to see what reaction we get to these ideas, and if they need more detailed discussion, I will create the individual ideas as Forum Topics. For now, please comment below and we'll see how it goes.

It is important to the AEC to involve the members in discussing these ideas, rather than discussing behind closed doors and taking a vote. This is your community and you should have a say...so please do.

regards,

The AEC

Dan - Reg cap on number of postings

nice of you to update members with "loud thinking" of AEC for getting a feel and feed back from them before freezing on them...

my take/concerns on proposed methodology restricting number of posts by members is thus:-

1. Is it necessary to put a cap?...poetry is a spontaneous outcome of
emotions..feelings...ideas.. More often than not the writer feels excited to post it to get the pleasure of sharing it with others and get a feed back from them . Putting a cap on number of posts would be like putting Traffic Lights on a race course

2. At a time when Neopoet is experiencing a cooling off ...such a cap may hamper greater participation...variety

3. A computer may be able to count the number of hits...will it be able to recognize if it is a genuine comment or just a hit in the comments field?...

4. How will a Member know how many comments he/she has made during the course of a day/wee/whatever will be the criteria?

These are some of my concerns i have shared...please don't misunderstand it as an objection...i appreciate the good intentions of AEC to keep innovating and involve members by seeking their opinion to the best extent possible...

regards....

Dan

did you mean one or two poem a week to the stream? I agree to the blog changes. maybe to simplify things the stream should have a specific purpose. not sure what to label its purpose but thinking something major. the new joiners pool would be the first page all new members see . then the others workshops are linked there for them to share their poems my vision for the site is vague but becomes clear as its present design draw out in my mind.

Barbara

Barbara,

just to clarify: the point raised about the number of postings, is only relating to the stream. Workshop & Blogs would not be included in this.

Like I said to Raj, I will respond in more detail after receiving some more responses.

Thank you for taking time to read and respond.

Dan - Reg term of AEC

A suggestion:/ Opinion-

rather than electing an entirely New panel on AEC for a smooth transition and to facilitate enough time for putting new ideas into place as also acting on some issues...will it be possible to have an election policy where in a say 4 month term..the tenure of a few members gets extended by two months and elections are held for the remaining members ...needless to say it should be a rotation policy applicable for all elected members of AEC...for abundant clarification i will give an example with some assumptions:

A B C & D are Members of AEC

Election is held say every 4 months

Tenure of A & B will spill into the next AEC and C & D would vacate and make way for newly elected 2 members...

During the next AEC Election A & B will make way for newly elected Members and tenure of C & D will spill over into next AEC and so on...

Raj

Raj,

thanks for the input here. Just one issue with the suggestion...how and when would the Chair be chosen? The Chair is chosen during the election and is given to the member with the most votes...this would be difficult to work out if we stagger the elections...unless we can come up with a way around it.

Dan

there surely is a way...

the existing Chaiman can become a Member while half of the AEC Members step out by rotation and his place can be taken by the new Member who gets maximum votes...

hello

The chair could be chosen by the AEC. It would be similar to a political party electing its own speaker.........stan( I am just putting this out as an idea by a general member, not an AEC member)

Cat

Cat,

thanks, I don't see that being a difficult application to bring in, as it is the same as blogs, just called Short Stories. I'll keep you posted,

thanks for the input,
