MARCH 11
Sixty three times I have seen
deep winter fade to ides of March
leaving behind hints of green
in forests among the oaks and larch.
And I have planted many trees
now grown tall and wide for shade
so large they hardly show light breeze.
I've made young woods of open glades.
For three score and then three springs
wild lands have bloomed before my eyes
plum trees, briers and other things
beneath the deep blue southern skies.
Summers passed in the same number
deep green in the haze of heat
with afternoons just fit for slumber
when life displays a lazy beat.
I've seen the autumn woods ablaze
when harvest colors quilt the land
and first cold winds make puddles glaze
as each flock forms a shifting band.
I've raised a family and known love
seen both failures and success.
How many more moons will I see above?
Far fewer than I've seen I guess.

As usual you are seeing the reality of the things you have done, a tree planted achieving maturity, a love that has lasted the years.
A complete picture as always from your quill, I think that from the way you write a Porcupine would last for ever having loaned you one of its quills lol. Great words there Stan
Take care out there and know that there are some that touch you, as the brushwood sheaf, Yours Ian.T

Ode to Spring?...
Only someone like the Scribbler could write one like this! I loved your rhyme and the rhythm is great, just one little place that I hesitate. [The autumn woos? ] ~ Gee

Woos........lmao.....a funny typo! Appreciate the spot. Marh 11 refers to my birthday as the poem is also supposed to. Reckon I am too obscure..............stan ......woos ..lol

A very happy 59th Birthday friend, Piscean today
Born on 11 March
of the year 1954 of our Lord,
gives the total number of 24 =six,
to friend Stan,
who is on this site our poetic man….
God bless you with subtler poetry
as those who have a Venus-ion number,
create lovely history,
no not mystery
but with all sincerity poetry
which is a unique Stanly creativity.
More later, as many more moons come your way,
don't forget to count the blue ones friend you may
and must longer stay
So once again
a very Happy Birthday...

yeah and tomorrow,,when we are no more
ninety will be read and treated as nineteen
with doses of Viagra in between
what of testosterone will one say
or estrogen to with women's life play..
men will never die
and they will have to invent a switch
you know why
when everything is cup full
the human cask will be hopeful
but still man would think of another life elsewhere
in the vast universe discovered some where
till then abide with me
and sing a happy song
along with destiny..

Many years to come
I agree with others. The closing lines are fabulous.
I've raised a family and known love
seen both failures and success
how many more moons will I see above?
far fewer than I've seen I guess.
I wish you'd see more moons than you've already seen..

like quality of poetry
we must aim at
like quality of poetry
QUALITY (of life)
not in mournful numbers
but eventful years
how so ever minimal
those who leave olive branches
upon times sandy graves
have a story to tell
others only may....

Hello
I managed to write this in a manner that I can update it by just changing age without messing it up. But be assured it was an accidental thing not planned lol. Good Year..........nawwww I'm not going to tell you about the tire company which recycled condoms to make tires. It took 365 condoms to make one tire. They called their tire good year...............I'm now ducking behind comp screen to dodge stones lmao.......stan

You know,
I just got back from another forced hiatus, and it struck me, reading this again, how far your poetry has come, since I've known you, and been reading it.
Well done, my friend, just, simply, well done.

Hi Jim
I had noticed your being AWOL. Funny how the real world can intrude isn't it? And thanks for your kind words about my progress in scribbling out these little rhymes. But you know something? One of my own favorite poems is still "Homeplace" which was about the 3rd poem I ever wrote. Good to have you back.........stan

Hi raj
Thanks for the visit. No I don't plant a sapling each year but I have been known to plant trees over time. This past winter I set out 500 pines and intend to set out about 100 hardwoods of mixed species so maybe that makes up for it lol.....stan
