Cold Is The Grave
Cold is the grave
to which I go
leaving nothing
but an embers glow
Dark is the road
on which I'll travel
while world surrounding
begins to unravel
The beating of wings
is all I hear
the reason for being
becomes unclear
Listless trees
hung with blackened souls
line each side
like Centurians of old
Shattered bones litter
the unpaved roads
whispers echo the thoughts
untold
While a body screams
with unbearable pain
Each teardrop leaves
an indelible stain
And cold is the grave to which I go

Hello Dear!
I remember this one from a while back, and it is as enjoyable a read now as it was then! Although the theme and tone of the poem is somber, the language use and imagery make it shine! Great write!

Dark,
very dark.
"Shattered bones litter
the unpaved roads
whispers echo the thoughts
untold"
I really loved those lines. And I liked the rhythm of this poem, and also how you ended it. It read almost like good music,

Thank you so much for your kind words and reading this piece. My mood was very dark when I wrote it.

dear Chrys
Though as dark as a grave might be, I found this a good capture of how I sometimes imagine things in the grave after someone's death. It is difficult to describe and I never thought of it to be easy.
Simply, a piece I really wish that I have written
Well done!

Hi Chrys
It is good to read your writes again. I haven't been able to get in here for a pretty long time but will catch up with your posts here soon. If I have connected correctly, to me this write conveys your thoughts about life. Please correct me if I am wrong. It reminds me of a quote by Rabindranth Tagore a genius and a legend..
:"Death is not extinguishing of the light, it's only putting off the lamp because dawn is here"
Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones..raj

Thank you , my poem is whatever you take away from it as the reader need not know what was going through the mind of the writer. I'm not on that often any longer but pop in now and again. but one never knows what I will do next lol. Good to hear from you
