TOWARD OR FROM?

Autumn leaves arise from the road
and rush to follow me
each one bearing its own load
of some half forgotten memory.

My truck and I leave them behind
as gleaned fields take their place
with naught but stubble to remind
of grain field oceans they've replaced.

The dashes of the center line
flash by in a blur,
continuous as the tires' whine
or heater's almost silent whir.

And my flight continues on
as the sun dips to the trees
seen from my mirror then it's gone
while roadside puddles start to freeze.

For I've been gone for far too long
and now I rush through gaining gloam.
It's time I hear tea kettle's call
and immerse myself in love at home.

Hi Lovedly

This was inspired by my seeing new fallen leaves being blown off the road by my passing in my old truck on the way home a few days ago. Knees are Not getting better. Indeed I thought I was going to collapse due to pain in one last night when I went to vote...very embarrassing. Perhaps I'm just becoming innured to them lol.....stan

Hi gem

I expect the fact that I lived my first 12-13 years in major cities might be why I notice things which life long rural folks over look. And you're right about me eventually doing an edit on this. I kinda stole the swirling toad from Jim Morrison but upon review I don't think I've Ever seen a toad swirl lol. Appreciate your visit........stan
