LINES GONE DEAD
I could call up and say hello,
a few buttons pushed and hear a voice
or drive a bit, not far to go.
For years and years I had the choice.
One by one they all fell out of touch.
It wasn't their fault, wasn't mine
like chicks leaving from their clutch.
I pretended all was fine.
Until now there are no old ones left,
no one whose council I can seek.
From my life they've all been cleft.
Whose advise should I now seek?
I long to hear their oft repeated stories
and share in the laughter they would bring
about their foibles and their glories.
I dial the phone....I hear no ring...

Hi Rula
Susan's mother passed away about a month ago. She was the last of her generation who was related and it hit both Susan and myself pretty hard. I recall people calling my grandfather then father old man Holliday. For some reason I thought the phrase would never apply to me but now here I am. ..................stan

Damn
Why oh why did you have to remind me, it is bad enough hurting when moving around in a physical way now I am so sorrowful that I have lost so many of my friends and family. You Bad Boy..
A bare write and somehow disturbing that you cannot realise that it saves on Xmas cards and present etc,
We are old Stan but in our writing we can walk the world and see more than most.
Go well young traveller and take the easy road.
Yours, Ian..

Hey Ian
We are both reminded even without me when we look in the mirror or tire easily. So don't blame me lol..........stan

Mirrors have been banned in my house for thirty years now and I refuse to walk past shop windows but I have a picture of me some place in oils that seems to age but me Never.. lol
Take care young traveller, I have walked half way into the woods which is far as I can go. Now the only way is out, Yours Ian..

I echoed Rula's view. Sometimes we don't realize how fast time flies and we took it for granted.

I don't recall
who but somebody once told me that when we have lost both parents, no matter our age at the time, we become orphans. There might just be a bit of truth in that.......stan
