Small World

Small World
Each day, a week after the school fire
The cold winter winds and rain
Tested the existence of the two mice
That had found and made a home
In a pile of old hats that lay discarded
The search for food meant leaving
The warmth and comfort of the nest
In the old hats and crossing the playground
Avoiding the puddles of water except to drink
To get to the small patch of woods near the school to find food
