S H U D D E R O F T W I L I G H T
blue stars on an orchid strewn causeway
the tide sways the soft longing
round wasting pier
and rusted flanks
crushed stone and weeds
beneath the step
are the only whispers
of the zeniths pause
of a day bent before
the offering of the dark
godess wander
channel markers shimmer
soft as silence
the reedy deep
converge to daylight
creatures sleep
and stirring in warren
dens and nests
the night creations
stretch
and blink their
early dawn awake
with bellies to fulfill
with an azimuth desire
resting in the heat of
hearts
beneath the fur and feather
and nape of neck
like starlings startled
a shadow race
the cold dream stirred
