Just An Average "Guy?"

"Just An Average Guy?"

he is the ideal in her eyes,
someone to look up to.
he is smart and quick
with a defined point of view.

he is a desired good friend
with a quirky sense of humor
he can spot a fraud in ten paces
he's not one to act on, or spread rumor!

honest and trustworthy he inspires faith
he has a valid point, gets right to it
he is a real straight shooter
he is a dead-eye and is right on target

don't be fooled by his easy ways,
underneath them he is quick as a wink
he's got you dead to rights,
clearly, he isn't what you think!

I have been...

reading the works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, as of late. Your description of the character in the last stanza, reminded me of Sherlock Holmes and those other detectives like Columbo [Peter Falk]. Those detectives that portray the easy-going and bumbling shylocks, but who are in reality, sharp as a tack. Remember Columbo? ~ Geez.

dear Geez,

I'm glad that this poem generated such amusement for you. I only meant it to honor you as my unofficial mentor, like I honored Stan & Susan. I really liked your poem, it is snappy and sharp! next I have written a poem about "One" which I shall post as soon as I can.

Indeed...

I am humbled by your description and the obvious high esteem you place upon my brow. I am extremely pleased and a little amused that someone might be so inclined to call me a mentor. I deeply appreciate your portrayal of me in such glowing terms. You are a most apt and sharp pupil, that has been a source of constant amazment. Thank you! ~ Gee.
