TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE
TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE
I wrote that poem several years ago
It came to me when I saw her again
After such a long time, no surprise
A face that I knew I would recognise
Still quite beautiful and far from plain
Love may never die, but it can grow
She turned and instantly smiled at me
Almost as if it was just like yesterday
The blood started pumping in my veins
Memories triggered in both our brains
And so many things I wanted to say
A return to back then it was not to be
Her husband I guess, who then arrived
I would never now get to talk with her
She glanced again, and then was gone
Now leaving me so much to think upon
I can recall when passion was the spur
Like a magic potion I once imbibed
Upon returning to my lonely room
I just had to let those words go free
With verses that tried to say it all
As if my muse had received the call
Through rose-tinted lenses I can see
Your bright light shining in the gloom

Yeah...
I can see this happening. [It has]. Wow! You did it right. I simply love the last stanza. You did just as you said: "With verses that tried to say it all." Having been there, I don't think that I could have said it better myself! ~ Geezer.
