Reaction

Absent of nuances
The secret of life is such…
A person may own their actions
Or be owned by reactions
The choice is solely theirs
Living forever within the
Infinitesimally small elapses of time
Between the feeling of emotion
And displays of reaction

dear Tim,

I like your poem... it finds me in recollection of something my Dad said to me long ago: " take responsibility for your own actions and think well before you react!"

I get it...

I think you are describing what is known as a poker-face. Trying to achieve that poker-face instead of an instantaneous reaction, such as having an eye-widening with a hand full of aces or the let-down frown of a really shitty hand. Needing time to consider the consequences of reacting in a certain manner. At least that is my take. Your title is okay, your word use is great, and the theme is a good one! It got me to thinking. ~ Geez.

Hi, Tim,
Oh, my goodness, yes! Those infinitesimal moments where our actions determine so much. It takes discipline and cognitive training to work through them for the best outcome. These truly are the split seconds that may cause peace or pain. You've pinpointed that moment very well - to own one's actions, or be forever owned by one's reactions.
Thank you!

Hi Tim

Being responsible for one's own actions and reactions, the choice is all of ours. Another good write.
