don't expect to be read only

be not that outstanding pole
in a desert no one knows
was it just a mirage

I write

Maybe a poem a day. When lightning strikes maybe 4. Some days I get nothing. I read 10, 20, 30 poems a day. I try to read all the poems in the stream here. Your poems are unlike anything else I read. Completely unique in every way. Perspective, language, depth, humor. It’s like really serious and totally cavalier simultaneously. I think of all the poets here your writing demands the most of my attention. I need a quiet space to really dig in. Then I get to meat of the thing and I swear you’re just messing around with me and I’ll smirk a little.

I truly enjoyed this as it made me really sit and think about the impact of reading other poetry on a poet’s own writing. It really is something that we all need to reflect on once in a while.
