Reading Your Poetry

I have read your words
so clearly penned in
black
and
white

yet, as they leave their footprints
over endless shores
I
see
colors

likened to valleys of eternal wildflowers
shards of metal heaved in cold piles
fresh bloodstained battlefields
children's tennis shoes tossed about at the playground
rows of carefree umbrellas on the beach

your poetry begins its birth
long before you realize its name -
like contractions in the womb
or the first stroke of the brush on
an
empty
canvas

it will undergo its pain
and still deliver its joy

I can see those colors
so
clearly
penned

Hello, Geezer,

I am trying to spend more individual reading time with a poem - like a new, but bonding friendship. For me, it is as much of a challenge to read and reflectively comment as it is to write. I'm finding hidden meaning and emotion within and between words and verses, and much to see and learn. "Colors!" It brings me a lot of joy to read poetry, both here and "out there." I am always grateful for you and everyone here.
Thank you,
L

Hello, Cat,

Who knows exactly when a poem begins its beginning, right? It seems to be waiting in the shadows for a spotlight and then, "Action!"
Thank you for reading and always generously sharing,
L

Hello, Clentin,

Thank you for your encouraging words! It seems when we write, there are equal parts we lose and gain, like the strains and emotions you mentioned. I have enjoyed reading your poetry and look forward to more.
