Glimmers

Glimmers
Written by Kelly Ann Wilson

The shade of red that the leaves turn in the fall.
The sizzling sound of sparklers on July 1st.
Running the brush down a horse’s back.
Drinking your cup of coffee in the morning.
How every single night out here, you can point out the stars that make up
The Big Dipper.

How can such a small cat possibly snore so loudly?
The sound of children’s little feet running
As fast as they can down the hall, that one too.
A pot of warm soup on the stove as snowflakes fall outside the window.
Going to the drive-in movies like your parents did when they were young.
The first 8 notes to “All That Jazz.”
The entire beach to yourselves at 2 a.m.

Christmas villages on top of old pianos.
When someone says he makes the same face that you do.
When your bare feet touch the farmland
Generations of your family have walked on.
How every year when March comes, Dad starts practicing old Irish songs
And they fill up the whole house.
Waiting every spring for the tulips and the lilacs to bloom.

The bass beat rattling in your chest in the front row.
Sailboats coming into the harbour.
Looking through old family photographs.
The smell of a real Christmas tree sitting in the window.
The view from the top of the Ferris wheel.
The most fireflies you have ever seen in a wheat field.

Ice skating.
First dances.
Bonfires.
Swan floaties.
Cotton candy sunsets.

Taylor.
Adele.
Shania.
They are going to make albums that you have never heard before.

Glimmers.

Of hope.
Of all that wonder that’s out there.
Of life ahead.

You only need one reason.
To keep going.

And you,
You have so many.

I get where...

you are going with this. I too, have what you might call glimmers. A swift and fleeting image of a time, a place
and maybe a memory of things suggested by a thought. I consider this well done. ~ Geezer.

Glimmers

Hello,Kelly Ann,
Lovely! I especially love the unique, individual glimmers: "The first eight notes to 'All That Jazz.' The entire beach to yourselves at 2 a.m." I feel it!
Thank you!

Excellent poems and so

Excellent poems and so relatable. My favourite line is this one: "The bass beat rattling in your chest in the front row."
Well done, really enjoyed this one. Ruby :) xx
