Decade

10 years is 10,000 miles as the crow flies,
You don’t want to fall in love, neither do I
Double X chromosomes handle more heat
Pseudo-science I heard at some party

Stand tall and act like you know what you're doing
Powder your nose as your tolerance grows
Wonderful is the word we settled on
A half bag of half soil where nothing can grow

We could have been friends, but I think it’s too late
You turned all the lights on, you opened the gates
You sit there, reluctant to call it a date
Absinthe, and then beers, coke, and MDMA

Ampersands coiled like a brand-new conjunction
Necessity nurtures the seed of invention
I still haven’t saved your real name on my phone
Soon I’ll have to delete it, but this way I won’t

Something to say, you have something to say
But I can’t read your mind, only colours, and shapes
As if you know some secret you've promised to keep
Come on, don’t leave me hanging, don’t do that to me

Something to say, I have something to say
I can’t keep a secret, not long anyway
I am falling in love with you, two benzos deep
Half asleep, you said you had been dreaming of me
