Our Afternoon
There are raspberries
along the fence.
Flourishing,
juicy and plump.
I've picked several basketfuls,
rinsed them in cool, clear water
'neath the gooseneck faucet,
then tossed them into this bowl,
the color of lemonade.
We rest here, like a painting.
Raspberries poised in my sunny bowl,
and you,
feet propped up on the porch railing,
red juice dripping down our fingers.

Trip down memory lane. My parents had blackberries in the corner of the backyard against the fence. I used to love to go pick them and of course snack on them at the same time. The visuals in this are great. I can see you and your friend picking raspberries and the juice running down your fingers while you visit and snack. As always, thank you for bringing back such memories for me. I feel like I have buried so many good along with the bad.

For Me, Childhood Memories
Your poem could have described several of my childhood memories: Picking raspberries with my mother in our backyard in Shirland, IL. Picking blueberries with my grandmother, then helping her make the pies. Picking the crabapples, helping with the pickling, then sitting at the kitchen table enjoying the fruits of our labor. I'm not sure how many younger folks can say they have such memories. Thanks for bringing them back for me.

I imagine you're right...
I don't think picking fresh fruit or vegetables is common now. I'm glad this brought back those cherished memories for you.
Thank you!
