This Isn't a Love Story

Gradual, our friendship
Just a few words here and there,
To full conversations about
Life and love and everything in between

We became the best of friends
Laughing and teasing each other in the halls
“Accidentally” brushing shoulders
Making excuses to be physical in any way

Looks turned into stares,
Nudges turned into us leaning on each other,
Without either of us noticing,
We fell for each other, hard and fast.

One text led to 1000 within days.
One phone call could last 4 hours for no reason.
Meeting every day in the same place between periods
Just to talk for a few minutes…

After months of playing around,
One kiss changed it all.
We were hooked.
Inseparable, even.

Or so we thought.
But then again, this isn’t a love story, is it?

He fell for someone else
Just as I fell for him.
Hard and fast
A heartbreaking realization.

With few words, we were done.
Nothing left but a shattered soul
And the grief of losing my dearest friend
And just as quickly as we became lovers,
We became strangers, once more.
