a poem’s succession

There is always a poem after this one;
the understudy to today's centre stage:

This poem however, is never unimportant,
it is as individual as the poem that follows;
many written poems have unwritten forbears-
each poem is breathed and lived; rarely spoken.

The panorama of this poem is found in one place –
the window of its reader's imagination;
so each poem is the beginning point
of new journeys that we join with the poet.

Another poem is birthing at the end of this one;
there may be several, in fact, awaiting their turn.

Edited version:
There is always a poem waiting—
an understudy, breathless in the wings,
shadowed by today’s centre stage,
its lines trembling, yearning to be heard.

This poem, however, holds its ground.
It stands, distinct as a fingerprint,
etched with the soul of its unwritten forbears—
the lived and the whispered, but never fully spoken.

Its panorama blooms not on paper,
but in the vivid window of the reader’s imagination.
Each line stretches like sunlit paths,
inviting footsteps into uncharted journeys.

The poet leaves faint breadcrumbs—
enough to guide, but never to tether.
Then comes the twist:

at this poem’s end lies not silence,
but the restless stirrings of another,
and perhaps many more, jostling to be born.

Somewhere, an invisible ink takes form,
its words breathing, its rhythms coiled,
waiting for the reader to turn
and catch them in their unfolding.

Neopoet AI - version 2.0

The below is a computer-generated response from Neo, Neopoet's computer artificial intelligence:

The poem "a poem's succession" explores the idea of continuity and interconnectedness between poems, emphasizing the significance of each individual piece. The concept of one poem leading to another is effectively conveyed through the imagery of an understudy waiting for its turn on stage. The poem also touches on the creative process and the role of the reader in interpreting and continuing the poetic journey.

One suggestion for improvement could be to further develop the imagery and language to create a more vivid and immersive experience for the reader. Additionally, considering varying the structure or rhythm of the poem could enhance its impact and keep the reader engaged throughout.

Overall, the poem successfully captures the essence of poetic evolution and the cyclical nature of creativity, but further refinement in language and structure could elevate its effectiveness.

How about this for a revision?

There is always a poem waiting,
its voice low, its steps measured—
an understudy poised in the wings,
watching the glow of today’s centre stage.

This poem, though, stands irreplaceable:
its words distinct as fingerprints pressed into time,
trailing the breath of unwritten ancestors,
their whispers etched in the silence between lines.

The panorama of this poem unfurls
like sunlight breaking through cracked shutters—
it blooms not on paper, but in the reader’s mind,
a luminous map charting endless journeys.

Each line bends the air,
carving paths into thoughts unknown,
the poet merely a shadowed guide,
leaving breadcrumbs of meaning in their wake.

And still, at its edges, another stirs—
a poem restless in its cocoon,
its rhythms coiled, its essence waiting.

At one poem’s end,
another thread begins,
unravelling into countless forms,
each vying for the first breath of life.
