Imagining the Sangre de Cristo Mountains
Imagining the Sangre de Cristo
(to be read from bottom to top, as if climbing a mountain)
One
Holy
Majestic
Earth's royal sun
Her magenta hues
The lost Cotoname
The Fireweed, the Columbine
The mountain's voice along the way
My weathered boots, my wise walking stick
About This Poem
Last Few Words: This is a Nonet, somewhat rhyming, to be read from the bottom up. An attempt to visually see the rise to the top. The Sangre de Cristo Mountains stretch partly in Northeastern New Mexico. At one time, people of the Coahuiltecan tribes lived along this range and spoke Cotoname, (KOH-tuh-NAH-may) a language long gone and is now thought to be extinct. I've never been to this beautiful range, but my wildest imagination takes me there on my mountain walk.

Oh wow!
No matter I read I found it charming. The idea of reading from down yo is absolutely creative dear Lavender.
P.s. I am not sure about the syllable count in line six, I am sure each word there has its wight, I might be pronouncing it differently?

Hello, My Wonderful Friend,
This was a bit of fun to write. Hmm... I wonder if you are speaking of Cotomane, which has 4 syllables. (KOH-tuh-NAH-may) Please let me know if it's something else. I am always grateful for your watchful eye!
Thank you, as always, for reading!
