Thoughts

I suppose trees
sleep each night
after holding their faces
toward the sun and their
arms so high all day

They might bow their heavy heads
let their long limbs dangle
then brush the earth
with their elegant fingertips

I can imagine the soft inhale
their exhale as they cleanse
the air around them with a sigh
dreaming of clouds coming and going
and clusters of mushrooms at their feet

I suppose they are wise that way

Thoughts

Faces, arms, heads, limbs, fingertips, feet. You've endowed your trees with human features. One must suppose that their wisdom prevails in spite of this...

Nice poem. Maybe the title needs to be more specific.

Hello, Ray,

After hiking, sometimes I have random thoughts, wondering what activity is going on there in the middle of the night - owls, raccoons, and the like.  And I imagine the trees resting.

Thank you for reading!

Personification of Trees

Hello Lavender

Enjoyed your reflections on our arboreal friends

Quite touching and descriptive.

This sounds...

like a bit from "Alice in Wonderland." Do the mushrooms at their feet have that sort of significance?

Almost a fairytale. ~ Geez.

Hello, Geezer,

It feels like a fairy tale as I'm hiking!  I expect gnomes or wood fairies to accidentally show themselves, it's so beautiful and quiet.  Mushrooms clustered directly at or onto the bottom of the tree signifies the tree is dying.  Gentle decomposers.

Thank you!

The truth about trees is…

The truth about trees is there for anyone who bothers to look, which you have magnificently captured in this lovely poem. One of my favorites now! Especially loved your opening and closing stanzas - good stuff L!

As always

An enjoyable read. A child-like  wide imagination that takes the reader to unlimited zones to see and hear the unseen and the unheard with well chosen words.

Absolutely, personification in its very best L.

A piece I have definitely wished to write.
