This New Year
Oh, Little Girl,
Young Innocent Boy.
This new year belongs to you.
Your bright eyes,
your rosy cheeks,
your tendrils, untamed and wild.
Take to the woods!
Run through the fields!
Scatter dandelion seeds,
and skip pebbles across still waters!
Scream from hilltops,
fly kites!
Roll in grassy knolls.
Swing so high your dusty
tennis shoes touch the sun
as the wind snaps through your hair.
God, how I wish you peace.
Peace to drink in,
peace to bathe in.
Peace to breathe in as you
laugh on your safe playgrounds.
Peace to exhale as you fall asleep
in the comfort of your beds.
This new year belongs to you.
It is not for the elders to hold,
but to cherish enough to let go and give.
Run,
run and be children.
The old year owes that much to you.

Dear Lavender
I can see how does the new year belong to the young people. A fresh year still has a year to grow and so do the young ones or so I interpreted this one
Much enjoyed the invitation, although I'm not invited :)
Enjoy your holidays

Hello, Wonderful Rula!
There has been much for children to bear this past year, at such tender times in their young lives. My wish is that they no longer live these horrors. May they simply live as children.
Of course, my wish for Peace and Goowill extends to young and old alike.
Thank you for reading!
May you and yours have a beautiful New Year!

This was a very crisp and clean write. We should all wish for such things, for others and for ourselves!

Hello, John,
Yes, would love to run through the fields, and roll in the grassy knolls like children! That sounds lovely!
Thank you for reading. I appreciate your comments!
