Midnight Mass on the Internet...

By TV light his fingers fly,
connections made and solidified.
Emotions loosed, against the sky,
some are caught and crucified.

Thoughts are put upon the altar,
where his ego thinks he walks on water.
No perfect union, or amazing grace,
a second slap unto the face.

Realize his dreams, his ethnic gold,
pay the price of fame, if the story told.
And truth will out, I'm sure it will,
the evil of greed never gets its' fill.

Power is loved, power is money.
Make him rich, and love him Honey.
We upset his damned apple-cart;
don't you see his greedy heart?

World-wide peace is the big demand
force them all to force your hand.
"I'm King of the world, and don't forget
I'll win that goddamn Peace Prize yet."

Neopoet AI (premium) [2025-04]

The below is a computer-generated response from Neo, Neopoet’s AI:

This poem employs religious imagery and internet-age references to critique ego, greed, and the pursuit of power in a digital context. The title and opening lines establish a juxtaposition between the sacred (midnight mass, altar, grace) and the profane (TV light, internet connections), setting a satirical tone that persists throughout.

The poem uses rhyme consistently, although the meter varies, which sometimes disrupts the flow. For example, the second stanza’s phrasing (“No perfect union, or amazing grace, / a second slap unto the face”) is slightly awkward in rhythm, which may be intentional to mirror the jarring nature of the subject but could also be smoothed for clarity.

Imagery is strongest where religious and technological language intersect (“fingers fly,” “emotions loosed, against the sky,” “caught and crucified”), effectively highlighting the sacrilegious undertones of online self-aggrandizement. The poem critiques the conflation of fame, power, and virtue, especially in lines like “where his ego thinks he walks on water” and “I’ll win that goddamn Peace Prize yet,” which lampoon self-important internet personas.

Some lines rely on familiar idioms (“apple-cart,” “greedy heart”), which may dilute the originality of the critique. The poem’s satirical intent is clear, but the target—presumably an archetype of online influencer or public figure—remains somewhat abstract. Greater specificity or sharper characterization could increase the impact.

The poem concludes with a sardonic twist, mocking the pursuit of recognition under the guise of peace. The tone is consistent, but the argument could be strengthened by tightening the language and clarifying the stakes of the critique.

Overall, the poem’s use of religious metaphor to interrogate digital-age egotism is conceptually strong, but the execution would benefit from more precise diction, consistent rhythm, and deeper engagement with its subject.

Yes...

you got it right, Cat. It would fit the both of them, but it was meant for Trump; although it could in fact fit any of the evangelists. Thanks for your read and your always welcome comments. I hope that it does make people uneasy, there are many that think he can do no wrong, and he walks on water. Love ya, ~ Geez.

Midnight Mass on the Internet...

Hi, Geezer,

You've captured the bizarre behavior precisely.  I understand nothing that's going on in our country right now, including the acceptance of it.

Thank you for this,

I think that the end is coming soon! I look for a way out, but there's nowhere to go. You just have to make do. You can speak out all you want, but deep down it's coming on through. You can't control Trump, but maybe your freedom, just keep smiling and writing like you do! Great job again.

Your poem hits directly on…

Your poem hits directly on our terrible world we have right now.The US really needs the influence of a higher God above the one who sits in  our  White House

The man...

who sits in the White House, has no "couth" as my mother would say. She disliked him the first time around, and I suspect that if she knew that he was elected AGAIN, she would have derided us all for being fools and cowards. He seems to think that he is royalty, above and better than the rest of all. I hope that the aliens take pity on us and intervene before we blow ourselves up! ~ Geez.

Midnight Mass on Internet

Enjoyed the read. Immediately made me think of our "commander in mischief."

Midnight Mass on Social Media for sure!  Preaching and ranting and twisting the truths to solidify his sermon to his cult.

Midnight  Krampus coming after are the "misbehaving" who do not follow in his footsteps or express their adulation.

Thank you...

Rita, It was my intention to "call him out" to help people see that he admires the tyrants of the world. You see the men he admires; the ones who "rule" their countries with absolute disregard for those that they feel are unworthy of independence and not fit to decide what is best for themselves. While the "elite" have the best of everything, the general populace survives on the little left for them. We are becoming close to being one of those countries. Just because we have a better economy and a higher standard of living, it doesn't make us anymore "free". A George Carlin quote, "In America, anyone can become President, that's the problem." Thank you for the read and comments, ~ Geezer.

Anyone with Money can become…

Anyone with Money can become president in my opinion, Not your common man or woman. Can't campaign without money- just sayin. Your average billionaire business people aren't backing the commoner.  I loathe the politics of the day. I look forward to the end of his term, hoping that doesn't change too!

I do believe...

that if the right man/woman appeared, that they could make it. Yes, it would be extremely hard to get started, but I think that the general population, Mr. Middle America, is damned sick and tired of the greedy corporations and conglomerates having control over their lives. It will come, I don't think that I will be here to see it, but it will come. Nice to see you commenting and taking part in the adventure of Neo. ~ Geezer.

Thank You

Thank you for so eloquently describing the most evil jerk to ever ascend to the American throne and, along with his chosen clown cabinet, try to destroy our wonderful country.

I will close with my thanks for sharing this poem, and my hope that common decency will prevail.

I'm always a fan of poets that are willing to share the truth. Will
