the past with the edges sanded down

rewriting memory

pow! that’s when life hit me right square in the face
i had to quickly learn how to roll with the punch
but then that’s when i also lost all hope and faith
so i had to follow my instinct…with a hunch

adulthood can sometimes be cruel mother
when some of the lessons were harsh, brash but fair
and then there were times when i had it coming
if i was moving on…i had to grow a pair

and yet my approach wasn’t always the best
in fact, you could say it went from bad to worse
i may have been a dumbass for acting that way
and the consequences kind of felt like a curse

but we all know life is full of twists and turns
we learn fast but that’s not always the (lower) case
it took me several tries just to get it right
now i’m here apologizing to save some face

i wasn’t always the smartest or the kindest
i’ve been a dreamer but i’ve also been a clown
i’m remembering and rewriting memory
about the past with the edges sanded down
