The Day I Chose Differently

Rewriting Memory

Ever been in a tempting situation
Where you knew you had a great chance of success
Even if you knew you were being selfish
As greed pushed you to give in to that excess

You ever thought about the aftereffects
And played the play on stage in your mind’s eye
Knowing indulgence is just one choice away
But your ethics and morals make you comply

Have you ever been at the edge of the cliff
Feeling the wind in your hair like a caress
As if in jumping, you’d be able to fly free
Getting rid of that compulsion and distress

I remember the day I chose differently
My heart beating fast – aware of my senses
A moral compass trying to guide me
Avoiding all the likely consequences
