Rainbows End

were the hell am i
why am i hearing
the anonymous voices
of my uncertainty
so menacingly
so clearly

i can see my first
day at school
a brave new world
only their was no brave

and here i am
approaching 50
and i feel
so very insignificant

again i am back at school
and the demolition
crew are conducting
their brutal melodies
singing their destruction
with emotionless faces

i see my wasted years
i absorb the nightmares
of the classroom
all over again

i watch
in slow motion
my victories over
the establishment
and i allow myself
to smile

how dare they try
to mould me into
just one more
plain unimagenative
statistic

i defy their black
and white law
2+2 doesn't always
equal 4
life is more than
the blackboard
life is more than
the classroom

life is  education
life is lived
on the playground of
day and night of experience
amongst the heartache
and the love
and the death
and the brutality
of the sweat and the tears
whilst running blind
and yet embracing
all of lifes fears
as well as embracing
the beauty which cannot be taught

here i am
my mother
my father
my brother
my sister

here i am a rainbow
i am the birth
i am the life
i am the death
