HIGHWAY MEN

On my way to work today
wild flowers white and butter yellow
adorned both sides of the highway
on long stems set by wind to sway
all shades watercolor mellow.

Spring grass just coming to its head
still lush and almost emerald green
giving sharp contrast to blossoms' bed
where bees and butterflies were seen
in this season of the in between.

And all was dancing in the wind
caused by traffic passing by
in a stream which has no end
beneath a partly cloudy sky
where doves and pigeons dart and fly.
...............................
Then evening on same stretch of road:
flowers were wilted,laying down
they and grass had both been mowed
all the way from town to town
turning morning smile to frown.

For there above as I drove by
a lonely and lost butterfly.....
