Critique Quickie

Each participant posts their favourite famous poem by a famous poet. Everyone will severely critique each poem, suggesting improvements and challenging premises and assumptions. The participant who posted the poem will then edit/ re-write it. Poems must be really famous, such that there is a good chance everyone will have previously read them, probably un-critically. Please PM me your suggestion for the poem you choose before posting it. We need to check copyright issues and determine that it fits the criteria.

Meter for everyone!

Description: Meter for everyone

NOTE- This is not just for Shark Pool, we will deal with all levels of ability.

This workshop is about the backbone and music of poetry- meter.

It is open to all levels of poets and is guarantee to be useful for everyone.

We will examine the four most important types of meter, do some fun exercises and finally write a poem.

The objective is to help everyone develop an ear for the natural meter of language, giving the basis for making this instinctive, rather than a concious task.

Deep analysis of poetry

Deep analysis of poetry- looking for more than the apparent words.

There is a great deal of resistance to "depth analysis" of poetry (often caused by unfortunate school experiences) however it can provide a great tool for insight in review and critique as well as honing our own skills in the writing of deep, rich, quality verse.

In this workshop each participant will submit a poem which the other participants will firstly attempt to describe/summarise as simply as possible the literal meaning. The comparisons will be revealing.
