Autumnal

Leaves are fully
off the elm early
pear apple cherry
plum in rhythm
to the cycle of the seasons

Towering Ent reaching for the sky
seems to have its own mind
can’t wait to start over
hasten a rebirth
one more time

Endless Moments in the Waiting Room

In the sterile room,
Fleeting whispers dance,
Silence speaks volumes,
As minutes stretch, prance.

"Will time ever mend,
The clock's ceaseless cry?"
Frustration takes hold,
Time drips with a sigh.

Longing for solace,
Amidst restless minds,
Patience wears thin,
Anxious heart unwinds.

GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN

It's been so many years
Yet I'll never forget that day,
I thought that she was special
Yet I let her slip away.

I tried to make it work
I might have tried a bit too hard,
I'd been searching for one just like her
I may have overplayed my card.

It was early on a sunlit morning
I thought our stars were all aligned,
I still remember every second
Of the bond we soon would find.

Memories

He won’t have time to miss you, ‘cause he sees you everywhere...
Like that lady he passed on the street, she had your colour hair...
Or the lady at the crosswalk just the other day,
She stopped her car abruptly and gave him the right of way...

The woman that he met in the supermarket line,
She asked how he was doing and he told her he was fine...
She had a pleasant smile and she looked a lot like you,
As he walked away he turned around and she was looking too...

Solitude

There was nothing
like the solitude
of the sea
To stand on deck,
with nothing all around
The heavens
Open above you.
Stars speckle
The sky
Seeing deeper
Into Space
Than possible on land
Quietness abounds
Just the rumble
of the engines
Beneath your feet
And the swish
Of the ocean
Under the hull.
God's awesomeness
is felt in
This solitude.
Life is old there
Life is good there.
A sailor on the sea.

9/11

Two thousand one, nine eleven
Five thousand plus arrive in heaven
As they pass through the gate,
Thousands more appear in wait
A tall bearded man,
wearing a stovepipe hat
steps forward and greets them,
Then says, "Lets chat".
They settle down in seats of clouds
A man named Martin shouts out proud
"I have a dream!" and once he did
The Newcomer says, "Your dream still lives."
Groups of soldiers in blue and gray
Others in khaki, and green then say

DAYS OF INNOCENCE

In the years of crawls,
Tender feets grooming innocently,
A realm of peace and quiet.
Little minds sad playing,
A life worth living, peacefully lived
'Cheers' and 'cheese' sang our worship
To grow was anew,
In joy we broke biscuits
Never apart, dining as one

Happy Anniversary...

The things that one normally says in a romantic poem
somehow do not seem adequate to express
the squishy, soaked with love feeling
that I get when I see you, after being apart mere hours

What might the consequences of a full day of depravation
do to my basic self? The thought drives me nearly insane.
I might, after a few minutes, settle down to read a whole book
from beginning to end, but I'm sure that after my legs went numb...

A Dangerous Game

It was an icy cold, Autumn night
When I had the most dreadful fright
Like a frozen me, time stood still
I was all alone, well up until…

I was face to face with ‘him’
The Reaper who is grim
Life and death, I was in the middle
He said ‘to live, solve this riddle’:

'If I fall and no one’s around
Will I still then make a sound?
As I grow, rings on me show
My age – count and you’d know'
