I knew it was you
when your eyes saw
every labyrinth of my soul,
and your presence
illuminated a world of shadows,
setting my heart ablaze,
punished by long winters.

I knew it was you
when, able to leave,
you chose to stay
and fill my days with joy,
my dreams with hope,
and my life with meaning.

I knew it was you

because, with so many other paths,
you decided to walk beside me.
You held my hand
and didn't let go
during the impetuous storm.

In the merciless lashes of life,
you healed all the wounds
with your love,
your strength,
your courage.

For all
that you are,
that you brought,
that you did,

I knew it was you.
