The toll of life

It seems life has its ways to amuse and entertain
God, it seems, thinks above all and sundry
Why I still bother or us all for that matter
Is a thought out of my feeble mind
Though now and then I wonder why people care
Why we think of others, why we “desire to be there”
Life it seems flows away, without any sense or motive…
And yet I’m here looking at the photograph
Of yet another one who visited my god…
But why?

The toll of life it seems I will never understand
Why I still bother or care, I can never comprehend
We say, we hope, that the departed are at peace
We honor and respect, we pray the deceased
We know not of how to bring them back
Or how to comprehend
Yet we claim to know of how everything began
And of how everything will end
Here I breathe and I do what I am told
To the needy I still give; the wise I still behold
I just wish I could keep the ones I love, hold them by their hand
The toll of life, it seems I will never understand…

It all seems good to me :) On the poetry, chaos and mysteries. Why we care seems rather an easy one to remedy as for chaos some say it is a version of hell and if nobody cared that is what we would probably have. I'm not sure about the mysteries. I think everytime we have an answer we discover it is really another mystery :) The mysteries seem to keep us going though yes? Mark

I just wish I could keep the ones I love, hold them by their hand Me too my friend, me too. I think this poem is something we can all relate to at one stage or another in our lives. I thought this was very well written and the flow worked well for me. It has a lyricial quality to it that works well. I felt the emotion coming through strongly. Kaz It's impossible to smile on the outside without feeling better on the inside.

thanks guys

thank you for the comments :) i wrote this one when my grandma expired. love her alot, but instead of crying my heart out, i noticed myself sitting in a corner wondering what might've happened to her after she departed from us all... i guess it's something we can never understand...

I understand

I would say the story of my grandmother's fear of not understanding when she looked back and saw her body ended on her way backing out and up. One of "those" stories or sayings I have mentioned here and there :) May your grandmother's spirit soar in the heavens. Joy and Peace, Mark

This knocked me on my back.

The sadness and yearning with love and compassion. I think you are the only poet on this site who talks a lot about god that I haven't had a theological fight with! Take that as a compliment. cheers, Jess

This was indeed a very hard

This was indeed a very hard time for me, more because of the condition my dad was in than anything else. It would surprise you that people call me an atheist. I do not believe in the stereotype imagery of god. I do not believe that praying in front of an idol will purge you of your sins. I just believe in one thing, One's self, and one higher force that drives us. Not god, but a force. If you believe in yourself and in what you are doing, you WILL succeed no matter how painful it might be. The best gift anyone can ever give you is one that only you can give yourself, and that is True Happiness. So you see maybe that is why you've not had one of your theological fights yet. Maybe I talk about god a lot but it isn't the same stereotype that others talk about. Whenever I mention him, I am talking about a completely different force nothing to do with the bible, the quran, or the bhagwad gita. But by all means, Compliment taken ;)

Toll of Life

This is an endless search. Wise people have been attempting to decipher it from time immemorial. The pursuit will continue endlessly. Mohammad
