Blood On My Hands

This blood on my hands,

I know will haunt me forever,

I was an innocent child

I am an innocent girl

Just 13 years Old

But a murderer of many

Far more innocent than myself

This blood on my hands,

I know will haunt me forever

I’ve taken part in the mindless, needless slaughter

Of thousands

Thousands who had children

Who had parents they never met

I wallow in regret

This blood on my hands

I know will haunt me forever

Ignorance is bliss for me,

Yet for others, pure agony,

This mindless slaughter can’t go on

This isn’t the circle of life

This isn’t just killing for food

This is murder and this torture

This blood on my hands

I know will haunt me forever

Make the right decision

Either make this slaughter more humane

Make it for survival again

Or learn to survive

By being vegetarian.

Hi Gentle Storm..

I think the intent was confusing..at least to me..it seems you are talking about more than hamburgers here.. in the sixth stanza.. were you talking about animal testing?..I read on your profile that you were dead set against it. but the poem didn't elaborate so it was confusing. I think the line..blood on my hands was overused..but that is only my opinion..the only other thing I could add is..plants are alive too. We share 33percent dna with a daffodil.. if you look too hard you may stop eating. your poem made me read over and re-think...enjoyed it. Richard
