Life is... (revised)

Life is a stunning white bird
streaking through the clear blue sky…
Life is a honeybee
honing in on a beautiful wildflower…
Life is a gazelle
running as fast as the speed of light…
Life is the golden eagle
spreading its wings…
Life is the vividness
of the leopard chasing its prey…

Life is the silence of the Sahara desert…
Life is as pure as the Alpine snow…
Life is as magnificent
as the August moon of Mykonos…
Life is the clear deep blue
of the Aegean Sea…
Life is the searing white houses
of the Cycladic isles…
Life is the dazzling sunset of Santorini…
Life is the simple harmony of the Parthenon…

Life is saying you’re sorry…
Life is forgiving…
Life is giving to your fellow human being…
Life is striving for knowledge…
Life is enjoying the simplest of things…
Life is loving each other forever…

Life is what you make it to be…

Life is Elaine’s breathtaking beauty,
it is her romantic soul,
it is her true passion for life…
Life for me is Elaine:
it is the scented splendor of a crimson rose,
it is the sunshine after the rain…
Life with Elaine is a gentle summer breeze,
it is the end of a fabulous rainbow…
Life with Elaine is the colorful autumn leaves,
it is the silent peace after a winter storm…
Life with Elaine is pure, refreshing,
vivid air, it is hope after despair…
Life is my Elaine;
she inspires, she portrays,
she depicts all I’ve just told in these lines…
Life is sharing with her all these heavenly beauties,
it is sharing all these splendid human values…

Life is

While this may be a beautiful proposal of love to the person it is intended for, for public consumption it becomes very redundant - and quickly. Honestly, even as a love poem I would omit everything but the last stanza. It is just too many images crowded into one place - it steals the intent from the words. Best, Ronda
