That old mean man's quite
Grumpy in the main:

He swings at yellow
Backyard dandelions

With his handy dandy
Walking cane.

Of course they gleeful
Smirk at him; to me

They're quite unfazed, it's
Evidently plain.

I'd laugh, too if I saw someone walking around their yard practicing their backstroke on dandy-lions... *runs and hides* Amusing write, but I've got to tell you, you don't have to be grumpy to fall under the "gotta smack a dandelion" spell. Most mornings en route to city library I've glimpsed an old man swinging at dandelions with his walking cane (actually, 'twas in his front yard, not back). Then yesterday morning my uncommonly twisted brain found at last a way to write about it. Yours, Chuck PS: I truly value dandelions. Eat their leaves---and at times their blooms---with every meal. Nutrient values are high, to the point of being at least somewhat medicinally therapeutic in effect. They reproduce inexhaustively ... and fresh they cost me not a cent. Added to a salad, and with extra virgin, cold-pressed olive oil (and vinegar), their bitterness comes nicely obscured to my spoiled tongue.
