So Beats the Heart

So Beats the Heart

Let’s all raise a glass to Peggy,
and drink a toast to Mrs. Mack.
Let’s raise our glasses towards the heavens,
because you know she’s toasting back.

She’s been tipping all the guardian angels,
to make sure they're watching over you.
If her breaths were as effortless as her kindness,
she’d still be sitting here with you.

When you laugh and gather friends together,
it pays tribute to the spirit of her life.
The days and years surely go on forever,
so beats the heart of Gram, Mom and Wife.

So let’s all raise a glass to Peggy,
and drink a toast to Mrs. Mack.
Let’s raise our glasses towards the heavens,
because we all know
she’s toasting back.

Really nice

Very nice, it has a nice flow, and of course it paints a lovely image of the woman herself. Your use of the repeated lines has a sort of chorus feel to it. Regarding those repeated lines, I would make one suggestion. I felt that there were too many 's' sounds in the first line, perhaps, and only as a suggestion you could try: " Let's raise a glass toward the heavens," I think it may flow a little better, but perhaps your reading it in a slightly different way. In any case, very nice, a fitting tribute. Kieran "Mind, how you go!" - Roger McGough's poem for LSD Awareness Week

Tom

As per the norm, this is a wonderful write and brings back so many memories of people I once knew. Mr. and Mrs. McDermit, Mama Cory, Mrs. Badon, on and on. I loved every verse and stanza. The only change I would make is to this line. "to make sure their watching over you.". their should be they're. Well done sir. Loved it! Rett: "This way to the Great Egress" P.T. Barnum

OOPS

Like you, Rett, I pride myself in not making these common mistakes. Thanks for pointing it out to me....and for your kind review. Tom
