a terrible prayer
i am no longer content
with petitions
or begging for another
warm hairline
settling on the nape
of one more smiling brain cell
on it's way downtown
eager to be killed.
before i sleep
my request will
be simple:
that the screaming children
in Iraq, Afghanistan, Guatamela
interrupt Paris Angelicus
and the Litany of the Saints
until i see their eyes peer
from the tabernacle
every morning mass
with petitions
or begging for another
warm hairline
settling on the nape
of one more smiling brain cell
on it's way downtown
eager to be killed.
before i sleep
my request will
be simple:
that the screaming children
in Iraq, Afghanistan, Guatamela
interrupt Paris Angelicus
and the Litany of the Saints
until i see their eyes peer
from the tabernacle
every morning mass

only terrible that the prayer was necessary.
