Westminister Woes - Recollections from my Trip to Westminister Abbey

Trapped inside sarcophagi 
Terrestrial footprints – a fist full of dust
Emblems of glory or Royal lust
Is for the living to adjudge

Ostentatiousness apart
We must surely all depart
In the earth we all must lie
After we've bid the world good bye

London

really is an impressive city. I myself have come back with so many interesting impressions that they are still reeling in my head, Westminster Abbey, of course, prominent amongst them...I particularly liked the first two lines, very good imagery there. I am looking forward to other comments because I am curious about whether it works as well for someone who has not been there. Maybe you would like to take a peek at my "London Charm"? You are absolutely right - London is an impressive city. In fact whatever I saw of the UK is. Among all the countries I have visited, I thought England to be one of the most enchanting I have ever been to. I love the history, the culture, the way the old and the new co-exist. A short but accurate word on the Abbey, just recently I donated a book to the navel museum in Portsmouth, It had belonged to Sir Charles Wager, he was First Admiral of the British fleet in the 1700's and was a member of Parliament in later life, and true to form he is buried in Westminster Abbey with his wife. Then who remembers them after all this time, even the museum didn't have much on him, still that is physical life as we know it Eh!. Well put Yours, Ian.T

How old is this book you are talking about? I absolutely love anything old - specially books. They have such character. It is indeed very generous of you to have donated such a treasure. Just noticed your question on the age of the book that I had here, it was printed in 1729 and was a print of the laws being put out by the parliament at that time. It was hard to read as the S's were then printed as F's so it made things hard. The book was printed for Sir Charles Wager who used it as a reference book to check on the laws that came out regarding Taxes and pay and many other things as it covered about one and a half years of our parliament during 1728 1729. Leonard, enchanting write sir!

I found it very interesting. I have never been to England although there is supposedly a town there that bears the name of my family on Dads side. (Wiginton, actually it originally had 3 G's , then 2 and now down to 1.) *LOL* My youngest son was married to a girl from London, though since divorced. I have a grandson that lives there now.*sigh* He has been several times. Anyway, enough digression, I liked this a lot and thought it was a fine write. Psst, don't tell anyone, but did you make a Tip to Westminister Abbey or a trip? *G* Well done! Respectfully, Rett: "I once had a handle on life, but it broke." Rett

I have never been but my first wife was from Great Yarmouth... it was her accent that did it for me.... I can see by your write how much you were impressed with the place... thanks for sharing your trip with us... Richard
