Looking In

Looking In Engulfed.All consumed.Entranced. The Dance,Teasing tips,Rhythm. A journeyto an unknown place;Fantasies.Mysteries.

The silence of all
Except the hissing,
Crack
Then pop.

A sudden burst
Of reality.

Another log tossed.
Snuggle into its warmth
As you stare
Back into
The fire.

Oh I Like this every much

I love to stare into the fire could watch it for hours I wonder if mystics saw things in the fire or because of the fire we look in other things to find what lies hidden within in ourselves I think, always looking to others or things the nature of we humans we have not yet come in to our own Donnie/Sinbad

Donnie,

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I wish I could remember where I go when I get lost while staring at the fire, would probably answer a lot of questions!! My family is considered the "Clan of the Smoke" because we were given choice of land in Ireland by the King that we had won many battles for (I'm talking 1100's here). My ancestor built a fire and followed the smoke and claimed the land that the smoke took him to. That's the legand anyway. So there is probably something in what you say in your comment. Perfect description of being mesmerized by flames, especially by a warm and cozy fireplace - which I could use here today! ~ Ronda

I use to watch the flames in the fireplace as a child snugged under my warm quilts until my eyes grew tired and fell asleep. Brought back beautiful memories. nice poem love it. Respectfully Yours, Barbara

Thanks Barbara,

I grew up with a fireplace or wood burning stove on every floor of our house. I just am so comforted by a fireplace. Splitting logs and carrying them in is a pain, but worth it! Live, Laugh and Love (and don't forget to write) Tink

Excellent Tink

I have sat and watched the fire burning in the fireplace until I fell asleep many a time. It can be so mesmerizing. Well done. Love it! Respectfully, Rett: "I didn't do it! I'm innocent! Uh, what was the question again mama?" Rett

Our the summer we had many small bon-fire parties and it always amazed me how quiet everyone got around the fire pit. I always wondered "where" everyone was in their own minds. Not really even knowing where I was in my own as I stared off. Starting a fire the other morning, as I stared into the flames and drank in the warmth, I remembered the summer nights... Tink,

this is wonderful, how you give the fire not only a personality, but several ones. "The dance, Teasing tips, Rhythm." makes me see each flame as a little fire-fairy. Love it, Ink

Ink,

I started a fire in our wood burning stove yesterday morning and this is what I saw, so I wrote it down. Thank you, my friend, for seeing the visions I saw too. Live, Laugh and Love (and don't forget to write) Tink

the many fires

at our cottage we would always have a fire and my favourite time was at the end of the fire when all the talking was done the party goers went home for the night the moon was high and the embers glowed and crackled listening to the loon on the lake somewhere there were no cottages across on the far side and just nothing but wild forest to Algonquin Park a huge park a big hill where the moon early in the eve would rise up from like a mystical visitor the waves or stillness reflecting always a good time in our lawnchairs or just laying out on the soil the heat on our faces I also loved the legend you write of excellent poem

Fires are great unless you live with someone who constantly feels the need to get up and poke it every two seconds! LOL! Very true, though, a nicely built fire is mesmerizing and comforting. It's cool throwing random things in there, and watching them burn a different color, too! ~Jess K. ---------------------------------------------------- - "If we always give what we have always given, we will always get what we have always got..." - Mike R.

I disagree with everyone.

This quite fails to capture the experience of watching a fire. It needs longer lines chock full of alliteration, assonance and unstructured rhyme. Bloody well written, but as I said... cheers, Jess

Hi Tink

Thank You for your warm e-mail , it made me feel welcome. Not only am I new to this site but also new to computers, and typing, and I feel a bit dumb. ( I type like two crows picking at a type writer )( and my hand writing is like chicken scratches) I hope this is all easier than it seems , I'd like to make a stay here and learn to be a better writer and poet . "Looking In" Very inspiring , warming me yet again, I love siting by the fire and getting lost in thought . "Full Stars for you" An amber glow warming Taking my thoughts as I'm looking in Sent of the burning log smoldering Stoking my imagination, far , far away The rhythm of the flames dance A crackling , hypnotizing trance Oh where have my thoughts been? All the while I've been looking in Thank you again Tink , Hope you don't mind me leaving such a long note . Smiles Gabor (DWD)

Hello Tink

Good wishes To all . I'm have great difficulty finding my way around in here . My mind is not familiar with these journeys , and my curiosity keeps getting me lost . I don't even know what kind of help to ask for . I feel like I'm in the dark woods , immobilized , and too afraid to call out for help . I just need to find a trail to follow . LOL Smiles to you Gabor P.S. Thank you for your offer of help. I need to stumble on this myself a little bit before I ask. You're very welcome for the little poem, after it was inspired by yours.
