Ain't it nice...

the woods surround my place as well, one way in except through the woods on foot... nobody peers in... I love it!!! Birch and Oaks, Sweet Gum, Dogwoods, Pine and Cedars all around me... and the critters... my dog would bark all night if I left him out... to peer or not to peer... great picture of your wooded area... you can see the city? I can't... it is a good ten miles away, but it isn't far enough sometimes... or close enough in those other times... oh well, can't have it all... Richard

I feel in the second stanza your wondering why people in the city dont look to country/forest and they cant see it ... I'm probably wrong lol but thats how it comes across to me ... well done :) Love J x

Chuck,

this is definitely one of your best pieces. Short, concise, clever. Love the (perceived) allusion to the Prince of Denmark, and how you oppose the peering in to the not peering out. Self-centered cities, eh? Yours, ~Nina

To me

this piece developed interestingly enough. The model is the Japanese 5-7-5. And since I couldn't get the subject matter all in in one piece, had to make it two stanzas. I live within walking distance---albeit a long walk---from city center. And yes, am surrounded by city. The expansive backyard ends in woods; the woods align with a deep, sluggish-moving creek. The creek offers a route from downstream into what roving deer often use as a midday nap area. And of course there are many other critters passing through (or living here) too numerous for listing. And the city is, blissfully or not, unaware of this islet of not city. Savoring the comments. Thanx, Chuck
