A Burning Bush
Waiting has burned and shaped a landscape
Smoldering or raging, it has seared our hearts
Ashes are piled all around and on my head
The urge to beg overwhelmed me many times
Reaching for the impossible was not my idea
Seeking, seeking, seeking was all I could do
Certain I would know it on sight, anyone would
For the drive to keep going, the need was enough
I looked over and again in the same wrong places
The pain gouged at that same part of my body
Good that I learned the lesson I fear forgetting
Now I have a permanent scar and I can touch it
Each time I remember it came from outside of me
My sad fruitless chase had been planned all along
Soon after, but still waiting, on a hot dry day
Standing still resting myself in a strange place
With a strange person, I felt my sandals on
I felt cool air on my face and I breathed in
While the words I was longing to hear were spoken
