Kings and Queens

In an ivory tower there live kings,
sealed for a time by golden royal rings.
Now also the fair queens reign there with might,
seeking their devotion who play it right.

‘Tis high on the hill they happily live,
their job from some to take, others to give.
juggling coins found in thin air is their work;
from this lofty calling they’ll never shirk.

Promises to the middle-class they make;
mismanagement or lies, from them they take.
Keep on throwing money at the masses?
In economics, please, take some classes!

They love to send important edicts down
for it is they, of course, who wear the crown.
But powers got themselves in a pickle;
the peasants turned out to be quite fickle.

A million or two of them swam the moat
and promised for sure that they would not vote
for shady women or dishonest men,
that next time of a million there’d be ten.

Get your ticket for the next tea party;
liberty’s lovers will party hearty.
Hear founding fathers who cheer from the grave;
for the land of the free, home of the brave.

Dear Deelilah

Interesting write, loved the way you have expressed personal feelings into this one. Notice how I am being safe with my comment, experience from the reading of your Bleeding Hearts poem. Lol. Enjoyed this one though, well done. Love from lyz. XX

Hi Lyz

It is true, I am a little more upfront with this satire. I only have 3 of these, out of around 50. Someday you might stumble on something that represents some other aspect of life in the big world. Thanks so much for stopping by. Look forward to visiting again soon. Yours, Deelilah PS Your picture is so enchanting. I love unicorns. I have one book underway (fantasy) that features a unicorn. His name is Lance, and his owner looks just like this girl. Where did you find the picture? Is it public domain, or for sale on the web, perhaps? Always, Deelilah

hello again

I would love to hear your own personal thoughts on this piece. I came looking for the poem, "Where Is The Girl" and found this poem instead. I enjoyed the fanciful read. My favorite lines are: Get your ticket for the next tea party; liberty’s lovers will party hearty. Hear founding fathers who cheer from the grave; for the land of the free, home of the brave. Always, Cat

Hi Cat

I am glad you enjoyed this. I wrote it in response to the recent march in WDC rallying against the current health care agenda in Congress. The evening of the rally, Yahoo reported that NBC had the number in the Washington streets at 2 million. I think it was later numbered around 1.5 million. The media, however, quickly downplayed the event. I watched some live feed on the internet and there was truly a swarm of humanity converging on the capitol. People are becoming beyond frustrated and really angry at not being able to be heard, and being categorized as a radical fringe. Nurses (as an example of regular people) drove 20 hours from Texas to attend this march. Maybe, only Rett will get this political piece. If you like this sort of thing, try "Bleeding Hearts", "Alice's Green Tea Party", and "Sweet Deceit". I just hope we can stay friends after you do. By the way, I reposted "Where is the Girl". It is the most recent post now. Thanks for reading, and I hope to see you again soon. Yours, Deelilah
