Kings and Queens
In an ivory tower there live kings,
sealed for a time by golden royal rings.
Now also the fair queens reign there with might,
seeking their devotion who play it right.
‘Tis high on the hill they happily live,
their job from some to take, others to give.
juggling coins found in thin air is their work;
from this lofty calling they’ll never shirk.
Promises to the middle-class they make;
mismanagement or lies, from them they take.
Keep on throwing money at the masses?
In economics, please, take some classes!
They love to send important edicts down
for it is they, of course, who wear the crown.
But powers got themselves in a pickle;
the peasants turned out to be quite fickle.
A million or two of them swam the moat
and promised for sure that they would not vote
for shady women or dishonest men,
that next time of a million there’d be ten.
Get your ticket for the next tea party;
liberty’s lovers will party hearty.
Hear founding fathers who cheer from the grave;
for the land of the free, home of the brave.
sealed for a time by golden royal rings.
Now also the fair queens reign there with might,
seeking their devotion who play it right.
‘Tis high on the hill they happily live,
their job from some to take, others to give.
juggling coins found in thin air is their work;
from this lofty calling they’ll never shirk.
Promises to the middle-class they make;
mismanagement or lies, from them they take.
Keep on throwing money at the masses?
