Wizened Hope

‘I am the blanket fortOf your childhoodCome inside me andBe sheltered fromThe wars of living’She roared across the noisy turmoil. The childhood that didn’tLet you play the gamesTo teach youHow to whisper loveBeneath the sheets. Sheets of timeStacked against youthPrecariously toweringTottering on the judicious threshold. She hummed a lullabyStilling the tower He heard the tune andSang his story in broken wordsProtected in her wombReborn in her amorphous refugeFour strong legs to carryHis wizened hope home.

Dear Seabhac:

A wonderful poem. In spite of the sadness, speaks of the love of mothers who, imperfect and all, did as much as they could to fulfill their mission. We the sons and daughters must live our lives with hope, as much as it has been given to us. Nothing else, I believe is required of us. The love and mercy of God will do the rest. Your poem is very inspirational, and it deserves stars and a nomination. Sincerely, Hugo

I love it when there is a different view

Ah Hugo, Isn't it remarkable how people read things and see things in their worldly view. This was written about taking an adult back to the safety of childhood to teach how to love by the enactment of children’s games. Safe places to hide from the world, a 'womb' to relearn how to love, a skill we teach our children every day by the example of how we play with them and allow them to play with one another. Play is so important. I like your take on it too and gives it another dimension. Thanks Hugo good to see you back Seabhac

Very sad...

I had to look up the word wizened. Now I know what it means, great title. Although sad, as Hugo said inspirational and wonderful Rosina xena465

Rosina Hello

This is actually a very positive poem, it is about love ...the power of the love of a woman to help overcome a loveless childhood by providing a safe enviroment to learn to trust and love again ...even in a wizened state. Read again the meaning of the four legs! Thanks for taking the time to read and comment Seabhac
